Why Employers Deposit Funds into SF MRA?
Understanding your employer’s role in SF City Option
San Francisco City Option allows employees in San Francisco to access money for health-related expenses through the San Francisco Medical Reimbursement Account (SF MRA) benefit.
The goal of SF MRA is to help San Francisco workers achieve and maintain their best health.
San Francisco Laws on Health Benefits
Local laws require employers to provide health benefits for eligible employees. SF City Option is a health benefits program that employers choose for workers, to legally comply with the law.
Once an employer deposits funds into the SF City Option program, they should give you a Health Care Payment Confirmation Notice. The SF City Option program will also send information to you by mail within 1-3 weeks of your employer’s first deposit.
After you enroll in the SF MRA benefit, the funds belong to you. You can still use the funds in your SF MRA even if you stop working for the employer who made the deposits.
