Am I Eligible for SF MRA?
Understanding who qualifies for the SF MRA benefit
If you work in San Francisco or at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) you might be eligible for an SF Medical Reimbursement Account (SF MRA). SF MRA is a health benefit provided under the San Francisco City Option Program.
SF MRA gives you access to funds that can be used for health-related expenses. Funds in an SF MRA come from your employer. Eligible expenses for reimbursement include the costs for prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, medical, dental, or vision health visits, and many more expenses. View a full list of covered expenses.
SF MRA eligibility requirements may include:
- If you worked in San Francisco anytime from 2008 onwards.
- If you worked in San Francisco for more than 90 days in total.
- If you worked in San Francisco for more than 8 hours per week, on average.
- If the company had more than 20 employees worldwide.
How SF MRA Works:
When your employer deposits funds into SF City Option, they should also provide you with a Health Care Payment Confirmation Notice to let you know that a deposit was made on your behalf.
Funds from an employer are available in an SF MRA 1-3 weeks after each employer payment. SF City Option will also mail you information within 1-3 weeks of your employer’s first payment. To access your funds, you must first enroll in the SF MRA benefit.
If you are unsure if an employer deposited funds on your behalf, please complete an SF MRA Enrollment Form to find out if you are eligible.
