SF MRA: Who Qualifies & How to Enroll

As a worker in San Francisco, you may have funds to cover health care costs through a San Francisco Medical Reimbursement Account (SF MRA). The SF MRA is a health benefit that employers choose for their workers to follow San Francisco laws. SF MRA is a part of the SF City Option program.

If eligible, you can use SF MRA funds to cover the cost of:

  • Health insurance costs
  • Doctor, dental, and vision visits
  • Many other health services and products

Am I Eligible for SF MRA?

You may qualify for SF MRA if your employer chose to put funds into the SF City Option program for you. Once an employer does this, they should give you a Health Care Payment Confirmation Notice. This notice lets you know you have funds available.

You might also be eligible for an SF MRA if:

  • You worked in San Francisco in 2008, or any year after
  • You worked in San Francisco for more than 90 days in total
  • You worked in San Francisco for more than 8 hours per week, on average
  • You enrolled in employer-provided health coverage
  • Your company had more than 20 workers worldwide

Check the Funds Finder to Get Started

The best way to know if you qualify for an SF MRA is to check the SF MRA Funds Finder.

To search for your funds, just enter your name, birthday, and the last 4 numbers of your Social Security Number (SSN). The Funds Finder will help you see if a past or current employer has put funds into an SF MRA for you.

Even if you already have funds waiting for you, you need to enroll in SF MRA before you can use them. You can do this online, by mail, or email. Learn more about how to enroll in SF MRA.
