What is San Francisco City Option?
San Francisco’s Health Care Security Ordinance and Healthy Airport Ordinance requires certain employers operating in San Francisco and at San Francisco International Airport provide a health benefit that meets a minimum expenditure for their eligible employees.
An employer participating in the SF City Option Program sends payments to SF City Option on behalf of their eligible employees. Employees are eligible for the SF Medical Reimbursement Account (SF MRA). The employee must complete the SF MRA Enrollment Form to enroll in the SF MRA. The employer’s payments for each employee are held until the employee enrolls in an SF MRA.
In this program, an eligible employee is called a “participant.”
